Couplepause: Treating Hormone Imbalance

At midlife and beyond, both men and women face changes that can affect sexual functioning. For women, estrogen deficiency can lead to vaginal dryness, irritation/itching, inadequate lubrication, and painful relations. For men, the prevalence of erectile dysfunction increases with age, and some men develop testosterone deficiency. While typically one individual seeks treatment, it is helpful to address the sexual health needs of the aging couple as a whole. Taking a couple-oriented approach to evaluating and managing “couplepause” in the latter half of life can dramatically and simultaneously help both members of the couple to improve sexual satisfaction and intimacy.
