Problems Inside Your Mouth?

Few commercially available topical formulations have been designed specifically to treat problems inside the mouth. But, application of medications to the lining of the mouth (oral mucosa) has the potential to treat many different conditions and diseases, such as oral cancer or pre-cancerous lesions, mucositis, lichen planus, herpes simplex, candidiasis, recurrent aphthous ulcers and stomatitis (irritation around the mouth), neuropathic pain and salivary dysfunction. Each therapy requires a specific preparation to keep the medication in place on inflamed or infected tissues, or to allow it to penetrate the lining of the mouth. Topical medications offer advantages for the treatment of oral mucosal lesions, and result in fewer side effects than when the same drug is administered systemically. Ask our compounding pharmacist for more information.
