Glutamine Replenishment When Your Body is Under Stress!

Glutamine is an amino acid that promotes normal function of the gastrointestinal tract, including the liver and pancreas, and supports the immune system. During physiological stress, such as starvation, physical trauma, surgery, sepsis, or inflammatory bowel diseases, the intestinal tract uses very large amounts of glutamine. Nitrogen is necessary to repair the body and keep the vital organs functioning. About one third of this nitrogen comes from glutamine. This often results in decreased levels of blood glutamine, and skeletal muscle can be broken down to supply more glutamine. Taking glutamine supplements might keep the glutamine stores up. Also, some types of chemotherapy can reduce the levels of glutamine in the body. Glutamine treatment is thought to help prevent chemotherapy-related damage by maintaining the life of the affected tissues. Ask our pharmacist what type of glutamine supplement is best.
