D-Mannose may Reduce Recurrent UTIs

D-mannose is found in fruits and vegetables such as apples, broccoli, cranberries, oranges, and peaches. It’s also a dietary supplement which may help to prevent recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). After being absorbed and distributed throughout the body, D-mannose is excreted via the urinary tract. The bacteria E. coli is a common cause of UTIs. D-mannose may prevent E. coli from binding to cells of the urinary tract. Three studies showed that UTIs recurrence was significantly decreased in adult women who regularly took a D-mannose supplement. In the largest study to date, D-mannose was found to be comparable to the antibiotic nitrofurantoin for preventing UTIs. Preliminary data also suggests that D-mannose can reduce symptoms of an acute UTI. Ask our pharmacist about the best supplements for you.
