Vitamin C to Improve Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure

A new Australian study has shown that optimal vitamin C levels can improve glycemic control and blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes. Previous research has shown that patients with type 2 diabetes have lower plasma vitamin C levels and therefore, have greater vitamin C requirements. In this small study, vitamin C (ascorbic acid) supplementation significantly decreased glucose levels following a meal, as well as the total time each day with high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). In addition, compared to placebo, systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased an average of 7 mmHg and 5 mmHg, respectively.
