Acupressure for Breast Cancer Survivors

Persistent Cancer Related Fatigue (PCRF) is among the most common symptoms experienced by breast cancer (BC) survivors. PCRF is reported by BC patients to be the most distressing and persistent symptom after treatment, leading to decreased quality of life, decreased sleep quality, and impaired cognition. Based on BC patient reports, PCRF is more severe, more long-lasting and more disabling than fatigue caused by lack of sleep or heavy exercise. According to a recent study conducted by the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, BC survivors reported improvements in depression, pain, anxiety and sleep after self-administered relaxing acupressure. Acupressure educators teach participants how to find acupoints, the appropriate level of pressure to apply on the acupoints and the correct motion so that acupressure can be done at home.
