Viscous Gels to Help with Healing

Do you or does someone you know have a wound that hurts or hasn’t healed? Our compounding pharmacy can prepare medications that adhere to an open wound or the mucosal lining of the esophagus or rectum, to cover, protect, and soothe the area and allow it to heal. We can compound medications for problems like burns, a chronic venous leg ulcer, or radiation-induced proctitis using a base that is a liquid when refrigerated or at room temperature. However, when it is warmed to body temperature, it becomes a gel and adheres to the mucous membranes for a prolonged period of time, keeping the medication where it’s needed, and reducing the risk of side effects. This gel base can be administered via various routes, including oral, nasal, topical, or rectal. If you have a problem that has not responded to commercially available medications, contact our compounding pharmacist.
