Vitamin D & COVID

A new study found that 80 percent of 216 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 had low blood levels of vitamin D. These patients also had a higher number of inflammatory markers such as ferritin and D-dimer, which have been linked to poor COVID-19 outcomes. A different study found that COVID-19 patients who had adequate vitamin D levels had a 51.5 percent lower risk of dying from the disease and a significantly reduced risk of complications. Many studies note the beneficial effect of vitamin D on the immune system, indicating that maintaining adequate vitamin D levels may help lower risk of infection for some people. Vitamin D is a very inexpensive supplement. It’s important that all supplements are purchased from a trusted source like our professional pharmacy.
