Health Benefits from Non-Human Touch During Times of Stress

The value of touch is often overlooked but it is so important for human health. In today’s world, we cannot always see friends or give them a hug. When people have less social contact, touch deprivation may negatively impact their quality of life. Where can we turn to give and receive the touch and affection we need? Pets! Having pets to hug may assist in promoting health and wellbeing when human contact is limited. With over half of the world’s population having pets, these relationships may be one of our greatest health-promoting resources at this time.
